Types of glass we supply

Every project calls for a different glass. Here's a quick guide to what we stock and when each type is the right choice.

Clear float glass

The standard transparent glass used for windows, shelving, picture frames, and table tops. Excellent clarity and easy to cut to size.

Low-iron (ultra-clear) glass

Removes the slight green tint of standard glass. Ideal for premium showers, display cases, and anywhere true color matters.

Tempered safety glass

Heat-treated for 4–5× the strength of standard glass. Breaks into small pebbles instead of shards. Required for showers, doors, railings, and low-floor installs.

Laminated glass

Two glass layers bonded with a clear interlayer. Holds together when broken — used for skylights, security applications, and sound reduction.

Frosted / acid-etched glass

Translucent finish that lets light through while blocking visibility. Perfect for bathroom windows, office partitions, and pantry doors.

Tinted glass

Bronze, gray, or blue tints that cut glare and solar heat gain. Common for storefronts, sunrooms, and west-facing windows.

Insulated (dual-pane) glass

Two panes sealed with an air or argon gap for thermal efficiency. The standard for energy-efficient windows.

Patterned & textured glass

Rain, reeded, fluted, and other textures for privacy with character. Popular for interior doors, cabinets, and decorative panels.

Mirror options

Mirror types, edges & treatments

From everyday wall mirrors to specialty finishes — here's what we offer and how to choose.

Silvered wall mirror

Standard high-quality residential mirror. Crisp reflection, copper-backed for durability. Cut to any shape or size.

Bathroom-grade mirror

Moisture-resistant backing engineered to resist black-edge corrosion in humid environments. The right choice for vanities and showers.

Beveled-edge mirror

Angled polished border (typically 1" wide) that catches light. A classic, elegant look for foyers, dining rooms, and statement walls.

Antique / smoked mirror

Distressed silvering and warm tones for a vintage character. Popular as accent pieces, bar backs, and decorative panels.

Gym & dance mirrors

Large-format mirrors (often 60" × 84" and up) with safety backing. Supplied with J-channels and adhesive systems for clean wall mounting.

One-way (observation) mirror

Reflective on one side, see-through from the dark side. Used in security, retail, and broadcast applications.

Edge finishes

Choose flat-polished, pencil-polished, beveled, or seamed (safety) edges. Polished edges are standard on frameless mirrors and shelves.

Holes & cutouts

We drill outlet and switch cutouts, sconce holes, and custom shapes — done before tempering or backing so the finish stays perfect.

Care & maintenance

Keeping glass and mirrors looking new

Cleaning glass

Use a soft microfiber cloth with a mild ammonia-free cleaner or a 50/50 mix of distilled water and white vinegar. Avoid abrasive pads — they scratch coatings and frosted finishes.

Shower glass

Squeegee after every use to prevent hard-water spots. For existing buildup, a paste of baking soda and water works without damaging the coating.

Mirrors

Never spray cleaner directly onto a mirror — liquid can seep behind the silvering and cause black edges. Spray the cloth instead.

Handling & storage

Always carry glass on edge with clean gloves. Store upright with felt or cardboard between sheets — never flat-stacked.

Specifications

Glass thickness guide

Choosing the right thickness matters for safety, weight, and longevity. Here's what we typically supply for each application.

ThicknessCommon useNotes
1/8" (3mm)Picture frames, cabinet inserts, light shelvingLightweight, easy to cut. Not for structural use.
3/16" (5mm)Mirrors, table tops, standard windowsMost common residential thickness. Polished edges available.
1/4" (6mm)Heavy shelves, partitions, framed shower doorsTempered recommended for safety-critical installs.
3/8" (10mm)Frameless showers, storefronts, glass railingsAlways tempered. Required by code for most shower enclosures.
1/2" (12mm)Structural glass, large partitions, premium showersHeavy — plan for proper hardware and support.

Tempered vs annealed

Tempered glass is 4–5× stronger than standard annealed glass and breaks into small, safer pebbles instead of sharp shards. It's required by code for showers, doors, and any glass within 18" of the floor.

How to measure

Measure width × height in inches at three points (top, middle, bottom) and use the smallest. For replacements, deduct 1/8" from each side for clean fit. When in doubt, send us a photo with measurements — we'll confirm before cutting.
